BBI Is Made Public; Now What? Part I

Uhuru, Raila and Ruto at Bomas to launch BBI implementation

I will share my oped this weekend what my thoughts are about BBI, which should be no secret to those who have followed what I have penned previously on this subject. For now, I thought I share here what I have elsewhere in Kenya social media for those who haven’t seen it for what it’s worth.

This is precisely one of the options I posited in my weekend column and must say it’s a step in the right direction with the outcome being a way being found to accommodate Raila and Ruto in the next government.

I note with sadness voters won’t be a factor in that equation as at least presidential elections will continue to be predetermined, even after full BBI implementation. In sum, BBI with its flaws is the best we have next to nothing but old status quo.

The new status quo has some opportunities to tilt the trajectory of the country toward the right direction and that’s a good thing so, reluctantly, it’s thumbs up to full BBI implementation.

However, I am also laughing because out of ignorance, the very voters who continue to be rendered irrelevant and shafted in the sharing of political power are cheering on the craftmanship of Uhuru, Raila and Ruto whose personal interests are well taken care of while those of Moraa are largely ignored.

It’s something to laugh at but deeply saddening as well this level of ignorance and how many more decades before people–yes, including those educated beyond high school to see how their understanding of politics and government is constrained by both ignorance and seeing things from a tribal prism which shall always be limiting and rendering them not a free people.

Rather, keeping them as slaves of the politicians who exploit their ignorance to get what they (the politicians) want and not what’s good for them.

I said BBI should never have been about Uhuru, Raila or Ruto because I and others were pushing for certain reforms we now need not because of the ignorance alluded to above but will now push and champion this to be Ururu/Raila and Ruto affair.

The next government will feature all 3 men and prominently so, which means they’ll be the ones laughing last as the ignorant tribalist voter is once again left with an empty bag.

A netter responded:

Can you explain how the BBI will lead to a different voting pattern? How will the three (Uhuru will only feature in campaigns) be accommodated except with the loser becoming the official leader of the opposition?

Other than post of PM which will go to the majority party, are the cabinet posts still limited to 22? The fight will initial be on the running mate so that will influence the voting pattern. I think also smaller parties will try to fight it out hoping to be incorporated in the Govt on a post election coalition.

My response:

No I will not explain that. My point is 2022 will be determined in 2021 with full implementation of BBI. Indeed, the correct year for elections is 2021 and that will be tackled soon but be as it may, the presidential elections will be predetermined and that’s the good news in this for it won’t be Raila or his supporters who’ll be the victim.

Uhuru continues to mature and perfect the game of politics in Kenya when it’s all said and done, he will be way ahead of his father, Moi and Kibaki combined.

Thoroughly enjoying this.

Mudavadi Is Not Lying, But Is Wrong Nonetheless

Mudavadi and Raila(2)

In Why Is Mudavadi Lying About the Handshake?, I posed the question and provided analysis as to why he is. I now scale this back to say what Mudavadi said about the handshake coming to being because of visa cancellation threats is not a lie; rather, Mudavadi reached an erroneous conclusion from what is generally known but went further than that to posit an explanation that is simply not true.

In order to understand why I am saying this, you need to read and understand what I said in Ruto Changes Tactics at Chatham House But, Will That Be Enough?

Here’s an excerpt:

So much so such that when the history books are written, it will be clear we have the handshake, yes, because of Raila’s humility and Uhuru recognition it was time, but even more importantly because of what Chatham House did or more specifically, how they brought about the outcome.

The outcome was an end by itself, rather, a means to an end.

What’s that end?

That’s where it becomes very interesting and the reason why what Ruto said at Chatham House is even more riveting: Revealing Chatham House’s hand in shaping our current and near future politics.

In other words, the roadmap having been placed on the table for everyone to follow for violence-free elections in 2022 and onwards—with a price to pay if they don’t, then one has no choice but to follow it.

Question is, how does Ruto play this hand, knowing the political axes are out to politically chop him? It’s tricky but there’s no doubt he took good notes from Chatham House and will try to follow the script.

Except in that he may find himself written off the play script by those cunning enough to do so without rattling snakes at Chatham House.

End quote.

I’ll soon elaborate on this and as it relates to NASA.

A Musing: Working practically around the clock in the lead-up to the 2017 elections, and especially right after the nullified elections, a Party of Two churned one strategy paper after another and coordinated intelligence from various sources, including Washington.

The duo constituted yours truly and someone very close to Raila and someone very close to Mudavadi as well as several ODM luminaries such that it would be easy to offer or crystalize strategy coming from any direction within the inner circles.

Neither of us were ever at the Secretariat but had someone there we liaised with as necessary. There was also a volunteer there who came from the US to help out and I must say one of the many unsung heroes and heroines in our continued quest to make our beloved Kenya a better country.

She doesn’t know but I fully intend to make sure she’s recognized and appreciated for her efforts, once we get through what we must now–and that is BBI implementation via referendum.

Meanwhile, and as it relates to my good friend I continue to closely work with, I am watching Mudavadi’s moves and curious to know which side my colleague will come down on were Mudavadi to bolt Raila again.

The principled person I am, it’s Raila through and through for me.

I believe my friend would remain with Raila as well for doing otherwise may not be in his interest–or wise, given the trajectory of things presently and to the future.

Of Morons and Psychological Projection

I am sharing this blog I posted to a Kenyan social forum I belong but have decided to share it widely, even though mostly specific and relevant for this particular group as its point and purpose applies to all other contexts. So, here we go…

Psychological projection is a subconscious defense mechanism people employ in order to cope with difficult feelings or emotions. They do so by projecting undesirable feelings or emotions onto someone else, rather than admitting to or dealing with the unwanted feelings themselves.

The Basics of Psychological Projection

This theory was developed by Sigmund Freud who noticed during sessions with patients that they would sometimes accuse others of having the same feelings they themselves were demonstrating. By so doing, the patient was better able to deal with the emotions he or she was experiencing.

No one demonstrates a better and classic example of psychological projection on the world and national stage than one Donald Trump. One can write a book just on that topic alone but let’s just say for now examples includes when during the 2016 elections, Trump started lying about Hillary Clinton’s health after she put out a tough tweet saying he was mentally deranged and could not be trusted with nuclear keys.

From then on, Trump has been projecting one thing after another to deflect accurate charges lobbed his way, most recently being when the economy started showing signs of weakening, he quickly blamed that on “fake media,” or Democrats, depending on where he was payukaring.

Other Forms of Psychological Projection

Denial – When one refuses to admit that something is real. An example would be when someone says the Punguza Mizigo is dead on arrival and the person psychologically projecting refuses to believe ditto when a respected columnist known to be a good friend and strategist for Handshake Co-Principal Raila Odinga say he is and the hapless in denial demand to see photographs as proof!

Distortion – When one changes the reality of a situation to suit needs. When Tangatanga says Raila agreed to handshake because he was given “billions” or when Governor Anne Waiguru shakes things politically in the name of Handshake and someone says she was, after all, elected on sympathy vote as revenge against Raila therefore her powerful and politically earthshaking words don’t mean anything. It’s a form of distortion that in its worst form is what is known as denial.

Repression – When one covers up feelings or emotions instead of coming to terms with them. An example would be when someone posts on PK asking for anyone who knows of any projects that need at least $10 million in funding to get in touch privately and the hapless in denial not only distort but actually flip the request altogether to falsely and shameless say it is the person posting the request who is looking for the money!

Psychological Projection on PK

Progressive Kenyans has two mental and worst forms of psychological projection. These two, are psychological tweens in their psychological projection. You have already read examples above, but there is more: Someone who lives in dilapidated, roach infested one room shack somewhere at a plantation where he manually labors all day shamelessly tries to convince his level thinking morons that the situation is the other way around, which is laughable to everyone else, especially those who know the object of this psychological projection and the beautiful golf-course community where he lives.

We know as psychoanalyst analysts tell us these psychological projection mechanisms are used to cope with feelings and emotions most of these miserable characters are unable to express or cope with and leading in that class as represented in the above examples, is other’s success.

In other words, for these miserable characters hating people who are successful in whatever regard is their way of coping with their misery. I posted “A Day in a Life of a Moron” to illustrate how dumb and stupid it is for those afflicted with this deficiency not to want to be successful so they can better cope with their misery.
How to Stop Projecting

Experts tell us most people do not realize that they have succumbed to psychological projection until it is too late. However, for those who have some sanity still left in them and wish to shake off this ailment, there are steps you can take to detect and avoid psychological projection.

You can start by examining negative relationships in your life. Who are you not getting along with in your family or life in this case social media? Try and understand where and why the animosity began. If you are unable to do this on your own because you are too far gone with your hatred and resentment, seek professional help by talking with a therapist who can help you examine these relationships more honestly and openly than you are able to do by yourself.

Once you come to terms that you are engaging in psychological projection, you will be more aware of this proclivity in future interactions. As the wise always say, try to face problems and disputes head on rather than becoming defensive. Again, the key is being able to recognize when you are using any of the above defense mechanism and others and are able to learn how to respond in a more positive manner.

So, next time you have the urge you can’t run fast enough to the nearest Internet café or library to punish some keypad in rage after reading something so truthful and factual like this and you want to immediately and breathlessly project against some innocent person who has done nothing but state facts, truth or opinion, stop and ask yourself why you are engaging in this behavior.
You will find that it is much easier to deal with the monsters in your head rather than project the negative emotions you are experiencing onto others.

Those are not my words, but the words of an expert who studies and has written a lot about this subject. Listen to them, have them replay in your head and heed them!

You do so, and you’ll be healed of this devastating ailment that is destroying you and many others to the point you’re completely useless to civil society.

Note if you heed the wise counsel and change your ways, you can apply one acceptable defense mechanism to cope with stressful events and that is humor. As is widely known and recognized, humor is an example of a positive defense mechanism that people employ to cope with stress in life. As one expert puts it, using humor in a difficult situation allows you to get your feelings out into the open and also brings pleasure to others by making them laugh.
